How Education Technology is Helping Curriculum Evolve

We expect a great deal of 21st century learners and educators. There are career paths open  that didn't exist decades before, and what and how a person learns changes at a staggering pace. While the actual content and delivery methods of lessons may be up for debate, the fact that everyone involved needs to be adaptable and flexible is not. Thankfully, educational technology has also adapted, and can change with the needs of both educators and learners. Here are some ways in which the right learning platform can help:

  • Every class and every learner has different needs, so a learning platform must make it it easy for educators to make changes to curriculum. This should include the ability to easily add new materials as needed, and the ability to really make the lessons their own.
  • A learning platform must enable learner feedback, not just at the end of the course, but throughout. Feedback doesn't necessarily need to happen in a formal way. It can happen through anecdotes, comments, group interactions, just-in-time help, and learner participation. The right learning system allows for documentation and sharing of all of these things on a regular basis.
  • An adaptable learning platform brings in a variety of media, assessment, and evaluation tools. It makes room for innovative new ways to teach and learn so when inspiration strikes, educators and learners will have the means to make things happen.

The way we teach and learn may be changing at a faster rate, but there are tools - online learning and education technology - available to make it into an opportunity, instead of just an obstacle.
